Discovery Ridge sits on the far western edge of southwest Calgary, in the valley ranchers once called Jackson's Valley, above the Elbow River and Griffith Woods Park. Development began in the late 1990s under the working name New Discovery, and the 2012 civic census counted 4,350 residents in 1,649 homes, with no rental housing. Most of those homes are detached estate houses with double or triple attached garages, plus a set of villas, brownstone townhomes and condos with underground stalls. We sort those garages, give every category a fixed home, and plan for what a forest-edge address brings in: wet trail gear, wildlife-proof storage and a long winter.
Griffith Woods runs along the south side of Discovery Ridge Boulevard. Its trails, boardwalks and river flats send boots, bikes and dogs home muddy, and the garage is where that mud lands.
The City lists moose and deer in the park and asks visitors to follow BearSmart precautions. Birdseed, pet food and garbage stored in an open garage are exactly what those precautions are about.
Many detached homes here have a triple attached garage. Extra floor space never stays empty for long, so we give each bay one job and put storage on the walls and ceiling.
Chinook melt, sanded roads and a slab that never fully dries between October and April. Everything we install keeps stored items off the concrete.
The detached homes along Discovery Drive, Discovery Ridge Way and the surrounding crescents range from early-2000s builds to houses finished in the last few years. A lot of them have a triple attached garage, and the pattern we see is consistent: two bays for vehicles and a third that slowly collects a second fridge, golf bags, bikes, a workbench and moving boxes that were never unpacked. We assign that third bay one purpose. Most owners pick a workshop with a bench and cabinets, a gear room for bikes and skis, or a clear bay for a third vehicle or a trailer.
Many Discovery Ridge homes have a front double attached garage instead. Here the fight is over the second bay. Tall shelving across the back wall, bike hooks and a tire rack on the side walls, and overhead racks for seasonal bins usually get both cars inside, with enough clearance to open doors without hitting a bin.
Discovery Woods Villas and the brownstone townhomes at Griffith Pointe are condo complexes, and the garages are tighter: double or oversized two-car, often shared by a couple who downsized from a larger house and kept more than fits. Every bin gets a label and a shelf, the car gets its space first, and we stay inside whatever the condo board allows on walls and ceilings.
The apartment buildings on Discovery Ridge Close come with titled underground parking. There is no garage to organize, so the job moves to the storage locker and the stall itself. We sort what lives there, set up shelving that fits the locker, and pack seasonal gear into labelled, stackable bins you can carry from the elevator.
Storage up, second bay backThese images illustrate the layout we use in front-attached doubles; they are not photos of a Discovery Ridge home. Shelving goes across the back wall, gear goes on the side walls, and the floor between the car doors stays empty.
Griffith Woods is a 93-hectare special protection natural environment park of white spruce and balsam poplar forest, wetlands and oxbow ponds on the Elbow River. The City's park page lists moose and deer among its wildlife and asks visitors to take BearSmart precautions. For a garage that backs onto that habitat, the practical rule is simple: anything that smells like food lives in a sealed container. We move birdseed, dog food, the recycling and the garbage bins into lidded steel or heavy plastic bins on a dedicated shelf, and keep that shelf away from the overhead door so a garage left open on a summer evening holds nothing worth investigating.
Griffith Woods has flat paved and unpaved trails plus boardwalks over the wetlands, so a daily walk is easy and a muddy one is common. We fit a short stretch of wall next to the house door with a boot tray, hooks for leashes and rain shells, a towel bar for the dog and a shelf for the treat bin. Muddy things stop there instead of crossing the garage and the mudroom.
Households that ride the pathways along the Elbow tend to own a bike per person, a kids' trailer or a jogging stroller, and a pump and tool kit that never seem to be in the same place. Vertical hooks on one wall, low hooks the kids can reach themselves, and a pair of heavy brackets for the trailer usually clear enough floor for a vehicle on their own.
Seasonal gear on the ceilingAn illustration of overhead racks above the hood of a car. In a Discovery Ridge garage this is where ski bags, camping totes and the holiday bins go, leaving the walls free for gear you use every week.
Text us photos of the garage or book a walkthrough. We note the number of bays, ceiling height, the door track, outlets, and what the household stores across a full year, including anything that attracts wildlife.
Every item goes into keep, donate, recycle or dispose. In a twenty-year-old estate garage this is where duplicate tools, outgrown sports gear and the boxes from the last move come out.
We take donations and recycling off-site and handle household hazardous waste properly, so old paint, stain and solvents stay out of your black cart.
We plan zones for vehicles, trail and pathway gear, sealed food and garbage storage, yard and snow equipment, tools and long-term storage, then choose shelving, wall systems, overhead racks or custom garage storage for each one.
Everything is installed, labelled and loaded, and we walk you through where each category lives so the system still works in February.
Calgary's updated recreational vehicle bylaw took effect on April 1, 2025. From November 1 to March 31 an RV cannot be parked on a front driveway at all, and from April 1 to October 31 it can stay there for up to three consecutive days before it has to leave for 48 hours. Detached trailers and campers cannot be parked on city streets or in lanes. For a household with a utility trailer, a small camper or a snowmobile trailer, that makes a clear third bay worth more than a third bay full of boxes.
A third bay set up as a workshop needs a bench at a working height, a wall of slatwall or pegboard for the tools you reach for weekly, closed cabinets for the rest, and good light. The floor in front of the bench stays open. Once the bay has a defined edge, overflow from the other two bays has nowhere to creep.
Discovery Ridge is about as far west as Calgary goes, so households heading toward Elbow Valley, Bragg Creek or the mountains start with less city traffic than most. Skis and boards go on a wall rack by the overhead door, boots on a vented shelf, and helmets and goggles in one labelled bin so packing the car takes minutes.
The Discovery Ridge Community Association looks after an outdoor skating and hockey rink. Skates, sticks and helmets get heavy use from the first hard freeze, and a hockey bag left zipped in a corner stays wet for days. Open hooks for pads and jerseys, a vented skate shelf and a stick rack beside the house door let gear dry between skates.
Community tennis courts, basketball courts and soccer fields mean racquets, cleats, shin pads and three kinds of ball. When the rink closes, the same hooks and shelf switch over to summer gear, and the winter equipment moves up to an overhead rack until November.
A chinook can push Calgary from deep cold to above zero in an afternoon and drop it back overnight. Snow packed into wheel wells melts across the slab and freezes again. Cardboard on the floor soaks it up and tears when you lift it, and tools stored low start to rust. Shelving on legs, wall rails and overhead racks keep every stored item above the wet zone.
Winter tires, summer tires, the snowblower and the mower trade places every spring and fall. Each one gets a permanent spot, usually a tire rack on a side wall and a floor bay near the overhead door for whichever machine is in season, so the changeover takes minutes.
Years of sand, salt and meltwater pit bare concrete and leave white rings where puddles dried. Owners who want a floor that wipes clean can add a sealed epoxy coating once the garage is organized. If the slab is stained now, start with our garage floor cleaning service.
A slab that sheds meltwaterAn illustration of a sealed floor with every stored item lifted off the concrete, which is the most dependable defence against chinook melt and road grit in a Calgary garage.
Moving from a triple garage into a villa or townhome garage means about a third of the stored items have to go before moving day. We sort the old garage with you into move, sell, donate and dispose, so the new garage is set up once instead of rearranged for a year.
Buyers open the garage door at every showing, and in a community of larger homes they expect the garage to match. Our garage decluttering service handles the sort and removal, and a full garage cleaning gets it ready for listing photos.
Owners of the newest Discovery Ridge homes have the easiest job: install the system before the boxes arrive. On an empty slab we can fit wall rails, overhead racks and a drop zone in one visit, which costs less than retrofitting a full garage later.

Garage organization in Discovery Ridge starts at $199 for a standard garage. Triple garages, full clear-outs with removal, and custom cabinetry cost more depending on size and finish. We give a free, fixed written quote before any work begins, and a photo sent by text is usually enough to start.
Keep anything that smells like food in sealed, lidded bins on one dedicated shelf away from the overhead door. The City asks Griffith Woods visitors to follow BearSmart precautions and lists moose and deer in the park, so an open garage should hold nothing that draws wildlife in.
We give it one job. Most owners choose a workshop with a bench and cabinets, a gear room for bikes and skis, or a clear bay for a third vehicle or a trailer. A bay with a defined purpose stops filling with overflow.
Under Calgary's recreational vehicle bylaw, in effect since April 1, 2025, RVs cannot be parked on a front driveway from November 1 to March 31, and detached trailers cannot be parked on city streets or lanes. That is why many owners keep one garage bay clear for a trailer or camper.
Yes. Discovery Woods Villas and the Griffith Pointe brownstones have smaller garages, often for owners who have downsized. We plan around the car first, label every bin, and keep the work within what the condo board allows.
Yes. We sort what is stored there, fit shelving sized to the locker, and pack seasonal gear into labelled stackable bins that are easy to carry from the underground stall.
Everything is lifted off the slab on shelving legs, wall rails and overhead racks, so meltwater does not soak cardboard or rust tools. For a longer-term fix we can coordinate a sealed epoxy floor coating.
Most organization and shelving projects take 4 to 8 hours in a single visit. A triple garage that needs a full clear-out first, or custom cabinetry, may take a second visit. We confirm the schedule in your free consultation.
Get your free consultation today. We will sort the garage, seal away anything wildlife would want, give trail and rink gear a home, and get every vehicle back inside before the next cold snap.
