Pump Hill takes its name from a 40-foot windmill the Patton family put up in 1910 to water their market gardens south of the Glenmore Reservoir. The gardens gave way to one- to three-acre estates, and those estates were carved into cul-de-sacs off Jerusalem Road and 96 Avenue SW through the 1970s and 1980s. Most Pump Hill garages are now more than 40 years old and have been filling up for just as long. We sort, clear and outfit them with storage built for big lots, walkout homes and the reservoir at the end of the street.
Pump Hill was built out mainly in the 1970s and 1980s. Garages from that era tend to have one ceiling light, few outlets and shelving someone nailed up decades ago. We plan storage around what the room has today and flag what is worth upgrading.
The community sits on a gentle westward slope, which is why so many homes here are two storeys over a walkout basement. Sloped driveways send chinook meltwater toward the garage door, so we keep storage off the slab from day one.
The Glenmore Reservoir pathways sit just north of 90 Avenue SW, and Southland Leisure Centre's rink and wave pool are on the community's south edge. Bikes, fishing gear, paddle gear and hockey bags all get a fixed spot on the wall.
Long-time owners moving out of a large Pump Hill home, or into the community's adult villa enclave, often face a garage holding four decades of tools and keepsakes. We sort it with you, then haul, donate and recycle what goes.
Before the city reached it, this hillside was a patchwork of acreages and market gardens that grew vegetables for Calgary. The area was first known as Strawberry Hill, and the Patton windmill that gave it its current name was dismantled in 2002 and now stands at Fort Calgary. The acreage past still shapes the housing: many properties remained one- to three-acre estates into the 1970s and 1980s before subdivision, and lots here run large by city standards. Homes of 3,000 to 5,000 square feet are typical, and recent listings have included four-car heated garages and lots of a full acre.
According to 2012 civic census figures, Pump Hill had 563 dwellings and about 1,600 residents on less than one square kilometre. Many owners have been here since the original build-out. A garage that has served one family since the 1980s usually holds three generations of sports equipment, paint cans from every renovation, and a workbench buried under things that were set down "for now." Organization starts with sorting all of it, not buying bins.
More lot means more to maintain. Pump Hill garages carry lawn mowers, trimmers, leaf blowers, wheelbarrows, hoses, garden tools for mature beds, and a snowblower for a driveway that can be long and steep. Equipment like that is heavy and awkward, and it gets parked wherever it fits. We give each piece a dedicated floor spot or wall mount near the overhead door so the car bay stays clear.
Same garage, same car, clear floorThis is one of our Calgary projects rather than a Pump Hill home, but it shows the method we use here: sort everything, remove what is leaving, then move what stays onto shelving and wall hooks so the floor goes back to the vehicle.
Text us photos of the garage or book a walkthrough. We note the garage size, ceiling height, outlets, how the driveway drains, and what the household stores there through the year.
Every item goes into keep, donate, recycle or dispose. In older Pump Hill garages this is where the old paint, dried-out chemicals and duplicate tools come out, and where family keepsakes get pulled aside for a decision.
We take donations and recycling off-site and handle household hazardous waste properly, so leftover paint and solvents do not end up in your black cart.
We plan zones for vehicles, yard and snow equipment, sports gear, tools and long-term storage, then choose shelving, wall systems, overhead racks or custom cabinetry to fit each one.
Everything is installed, labelled and loaded, and we walk you through where each category now lives so the system still works in March.
A chinook can push Calgary from deep freeze to well above zero in hours. Snow packed into wheel wells melts on the garage floor, and on a sloped Pump Hill driveway the runoff tends to track toward the door as well. Cardboard boxes on the slab soak it up, then freeze and tear when the cold comes back. We lift storage onto shelving legs and wall rails so nothing sits in the wet zone.
Salt and gravel from Calgary's winter road treatment come home on every tire. It pits bare concrete and corrodes anything metal left on the floor. We keep tools and bikes on the wall, and for clients who want the floor fixed as well, we coordinate a sealed epoxy coating that wipes clean after a slushy commute.
Winter tires, summer tires, the snowblower and the mower trade places twice a year. We assign each a permanent position, often tire racks on a side wall and a floor bay by the door for the machine currently in season, so the spring and fall change-over takes minutes instead of an afternoon of moving everything else first.
A floor that wipes cleanA sealed floor coating combined with storage lifted off the slab is the most reliable defence against chinook meltwater and road salt. See our garage floor cleaning page for restoring a stained slab first.
Pump Hill's northern edge meets 90 Avenue SW and the reservoir, with its pathway network and water used for boating and fishing. That usually means several bikes, helmets, fishing rods and tackle, and often a canoe or paddleboard. Bikes go on vertical wall hooks or a floor-to-ceiling rack, rods go on a horizontal wall rack out of harm's way, and boats and boards go on ceiling or wall cradles.
Southland Leisure Centre has an indoor ice rink and a wave pool right on the community's southern boundary. Hockey bags left zipped in a corner stay damp and smell by midweek. We build an open drying station with hooks for pads and a vented shelf for skates, placed near the house door so gear dries overnight and is easy to grab before practice.
Families with kids at Nellie McClung Elementary, John Ware Junior High or St. Benedict Elementary go through backpacks, scooters, cleats and outgrown gear every season. A labelled drop zone by the entry door, plus one high shelf for outgrown items waiting to be passed on, keeps the school run from spilling across the floor.
Every tool visible, every surface usableA pegboard wall above the bench keeps hand tools where you can see them. In a 40-year-old garage this often replaces a bench that had disappeared under clutter years ago.
Pump Hill added an adults-only villa community in the mid-1990s, and it draws people who want to stay near the reservoir without a large house and yard to maintain. Moving from a 4,000-square-foot home with a big garage into a villa or condo means most of the garage cannot come along. The garage is usually the last room anyone tackles and the one that stalls a sale.
We work through the garage with you, and with adult children if they want a say, so tools, sports equipment and keepsakes are claimed, donated or recycled before moving day. Our garage decluttering service covers the sort and removal. If you are staying put, the same process clears room for the storage system.
A cleared, swept garage with simple shelving photographs well and tells buyers the garage has room to spare. After the clear-out we can do a full garage cleaning so the space is ready for photos and showings.

Garage organization in Pump Hill starts at $199 for a standard garage. Larger garages, full clear-outs with removal, and custom cabinetry cost more depending on size and finish. We give a free, fixed written quote before any work begins, and a photo sent by text is usually enough to start.
With a full sort. Everything comes out or gets reviewed in place and goes into keep, donate, recycle or dispose. Old paint and chemicals are handled as household hazardous waste. Storage is only designed once we know what is staying, which is why we never start by selling bins.
Yes. We sort the garage with you, and with family members if they want to weigh in, then remove donations, recycling and disposal items before moving day. If you are listing the house, we can follow with a full garage cleaning so it is ready for photos and showings.
We keep everything off the slab. Shelving on legs, wall rails, hooks and overhead racks leave the floor free to get wet and dry out without soaking cardboard or rusting tools. For a longer-term fix we can coordinate a sealed epoxy floor coating.
Yes. Bikes go on wall hooks or a vertical rack, fishing rods on a horizontal wall rack, and canoes, kayaks or paddleboards on ceiling or wall cradles positioned so they come down easily for the season.
Yes. With Southland Leisure Centre's rink on the edge of the community, a hockey drying station is a common request: open hooks for pads and jerseys and a vented shelf for skates, placed near the house door so gear dries overnight.
Each gets a permanent spot. Typically tire racks on a side wall and a floor bay by the overhead door for whichever machine is in season, so the spring and fall swap does not mean moving everything else first.
Most organization and shelving projects take 4 to 8 hours in a single visit. A garage that needs a full clear-out first, or custom cabinetry, may take a second visit. We confirm the schedule in your free consultation.
