Tuscany broke ground in 1994 on the ridge between Crowchild Trail and Stoney Trail, and it grew into one of the largest communities in Calgary, with close to 20,000 people in about 6,700 homes. Most of those homes have a front-attached garage that is now 15 to 30 years old, sitting at the city's northwest edge with the Bow Valley and the Rockies in view. That view explains a lot of what ends up in the garage. We sort Tuscany garages, clear what is leaving, and build storage around skis, bikes, skates and the car.
Tuscany was built out mostly through the late 1990s and 2000s. The builder wire shelving in those garages has had 20 years to sag, and the households have had 20 years to fill every corner. We start with a full sort and replace shelving that no longer holds weight.
Crowchild Trail runs west out of Tuscany toward Highway 1A and Cochrane, and Stoney Trail connects to the Trans-Canada. Families here ski, ride and camp often, so gear gets its own zone near the overhead door instead of a pile by the car.
The residents' Tuscany Club runs two outdoor rinks in winter, one for shinny and one for pleasure skating. That puts skates, sticks, nets and helmets in a lot of garages from November to March. We build a drying station so it all airs out between sessions.
Pathways run through the ravines along Twelve Mile Coulee on Tuscany's west side. Most homes we see hold one bike per person plus scooters and a chariot or stroller. Hanging them on the wall frees a surprising amount of floor.
The first phases near the Crowchild entrance date from the mid-1990s. The bulk of the community filled in through the 2000s, and the Tesoro enclave launched in 2016 with 128 lots of new single-family and front-attached homes from Homes by Avi and Albi Luxury. A Tesoro garage is a clean slate that needs the right system installed early. A 1997 garage off Tuscany Ridge or Tuscany Springs usually needs a clear-out first, because two decades of hockey, camping and renovation leftovers are standing between the owners and the car.
Most Tuscany houses are detached two-storeys with a front-attached double garage. The community also has semi-detached homes and townhouse complexes with a single attached stall, plus apartments near the entrance. A single stall needs a different plan: wall rails and overhead racks carry the load so the floor can still take a car, and every item has to earn its spot.
Tuscany's median age is in the mid-thirties, and plenty of original owners have raised families here from the start. Their garages hold every size of skate and bike the kids went through, and the next stage (teenagers with their own cars, or an empty nest) changes what the garage is for. We sort outgrown gear into keep, pass-on and donate before any new storage goes up.
Same garage, same car, clear floorThis is a Calgary project rather than a Tuscany home, and it shows the layout that suits most front-attached doubles on the ridge: tall shelving on the back wall, sports gear on the side walls, and nothing left on the floor between the car doors.
Tuscany sits at about 1,180 metres, and on a clear day the Rockies fill the western horizon. Canada Olympic Park is a short drive down Crowchild or the Trans-Canada, and Banff is a little over an hour west. Skis and snowboards go on a wall rack or ceiling rack by the door, and boots, helmets and goggles go in a ventilated bin at waist height so they can be packed in one trip to the car.
A Friday departure goes faster when everything for the trip lives in one place. We set aside a stretch of wall near the overhead door for the current season's kit: skis and a boot bag in winter, bikes, a cooler and the camping bins in summer. When the season turns, the two sets swap between that zone and the overhead racks.
Mountain bikes are heavier and wider than commuter bikes, and a hitch or roof rack needs somewhere to hang for eight months of the year. Vertical bike hooks spaced for wide handlebars keep the bikes on one wall, and a pair of heavy-duty wall hooks holds the car rack off the floor.
Text us photos of the garage or book a walkthrough. We note the garage size, ceiling height, door track, outlets, and what the household stores there across a year.
Every item goes into keep, donate, recycle or dispose. In a 20-year-old Tuscany garage this is where outgrown skates, dried paint and duplicate tools come out.
We take donations and recycling off-site and handle household hazardous waste properly, so leftover paint and solvents stay out of your black cart.
We plan zones for the car, mountain gear, rink gear, yard and snow equipment, tools and long-term storage, then choose shelving, wall systems, overhead racks or custom cabinetry for each one.
Everything is installed, labelled and loaded, and we walk you through where each category lives so the system still works when the first ski weekend arrives.
Between the Tuscany Club rinks and minor hockey, winter in this community runs on skates. A hockey bag zipped shut in the corner stays damp for days. We mount open hooks for pads and jerseys, a vented shelf for skates and a stick rack beside the house door, so gear dries overnight and is ready for the next ice time.
In summer the Tuscany Club splash park and the ravine pathways take over, which means balance bikes, scooters, helmets, beach bags and wagons. Low hooks and open bins at kid height mean children can put their own things away, and parents stop moving scooters to get the car in.
Tuscany families send kids to Tuscany Elementary, Eric Harvie School, Twelve Mile Coulee School and St. Basil. Backpacks, cleats and lunch bags that come in through the garage need a landing spot. A labelled cubby row by the entry door handles the daily traffic, and one high shelf holds outgrown gear waiting to be handed down or donated.
A workbench you can use againSkate sharpening kits, bike tools and the drill all get a spot on pegboard above the bench. In many older Tuscany garages the bench is there already and has been buried for years.
A chinook can lift Calgary from deep cold to well above zero in hours, then drop it back. Snow packed into the wheel wells melts across the slab, and anything stored on the floor sits in the puddle. Cardboard soaks up the water, freezes, and tears when you lift it. Shelving on legs, wall rails and overhead racks keep every stored item above the wet zone.
Tuscany residents drive Crowchild Trail and Stoney Trail most days, and both carry salt and gravel all winter. That brine pits bare concrete and rusts tools and bike chains left low. We keep metal on the wall, and for owners who want a finished floor we coordinate a sealed epoxy coating that wipes clean after a slushy commute.
Winter tires, summer tires, the snowblower and the mower trade places every spring and fall. Each gets a permanent position, usually a tire rack on a side wall and a floor bay by the overhead door for whichever machine is in season, so the change-over does not mean moving half the garage.
A slab that shrugs off meltwaterA sealed floor plus storage lifted off the concrete is the most reliable defence against chinook meltwater and road brine. If the slab is already stained, start with our garage floor cleaning service.
Tuscany station is the northwest terminus of the Red Line, with a direct ride downtown. Some households we work with commute by train and keep one vehicle, which frees half of a double garage. We can turn that bay into a proper gear room with a workbench, a ski and bike wall and cabinets, while the other bay stays clear for the car.
Tuscany is a resale market, and buyers open the garage door during every showing. A sorted, swept garage with simple shelving photographs well. Our garage decluttering service handles the sort and removal, and a full garage cleaning gets it ready for listing photos.
New owners in Tesoro and the other later phases have the easiest job: install the system before the moving boxes land. We plan wall rails, overhead racks and a drop zone on an empty slab, which costs less and takes less time than retrofitting a full garage later.

Where a lot of Tuscany ski weekends end up, and how we organize garages there.
Garage organization in Tuscany starts at $199 for a standard garage. Larger garages, full clear-outs with removal, and custom cabinetry cost more depending on size and finish. We give a free, fixed written quote before any work begins, and a photo sent by text is usually enough to start.
Yes. Builder wire shelving from that era often pulls out of the drywall or bows under bins. We sort what is on it first, then replace it with shelving on legs, stud-mounted wall rails or overhead racks rated for the weight you actually store.
On a wall or ceiling rack near the overhead door, with boots, helmets and goggles in a ventilated bin at waist height. That keeps the whole ski kit in one zone so it goes into the car in a single trip.
Yes. With two outdoor rinks at the Tuscany Club and minor hockey all winter, a drying station is one of our most common requests: open hooks for pads and jerseys, a vented skate shelf and a stick rack by the house door.
Yes, and it usually matters more. Wall rails and overhead racks carry the storage so the floor stays open for a car, and we keep the plan within any rules your condo board sets for the garage.
Everything is lifted off the slab on shelving legs, wall rails and overhead racks, so meltwater and brine from Crowchild and Stoney Trail do not soak cardboard or rust tools. For a longer-term fix we can coordinate a sealed epoxy floor coating.
That is the cheapest time to do it. On an empty slab we can install wall rails, overhead racks and a drop zone in one visit, before the moving boxes and gear arrive.
Most organization and shelving projects take 4 to 8 hours in a single visit. A garage that needs a full clear-out first, or custom cabinetry, may take a second visit. We confirm the schedule in your free consultation.
